FreePBX Trunk Configuration Guide

FreePBX trunk configuration involves connecting your PBX system, VoIP provider, or another PBX. Trunks act as communication channels, allowing calls to be routed in and out of the system. The setup includes creating a trunk, configuring SIP or PJSIP settings, and defining credentials provided by the service provider. You’ll also need to set outbound and inbound routes to manage call flow effectively. Proper configuration ensures reliable connectivity and call quality. Testing the trunk after setup is crucial to verify functionality and troubleshoot any issues. Below are the steps for configuration:

  • Create a trunk on the sip.us portal and click on manage trunk then Add a new trunk at the left bottom corner
  • Write an identifier name like (EA NS) and click on submit
  • Go to the manage numbers click on edit select the primary identifier name (PBX system) to which you want to assign the number and click on submit
  • Go to manage trunk to verify if the DID number has been assigned to the trunk number
  • Click on modify rate plan and select the required channels
  • Copy the trunk number and password from the identifier name like (EA-NS) in Notepad for your easiness
  • Go to PBX and log in with admin credentials.
  • Click on connectivity>Trunks
  • Add SIP (Chan sip) Trunk
  • Write the trunk name like (SIPUS-GW1-9924)
  • Go to outgoing setting and Write trunk name like (5262439924GW1)
  • Write PEER details
  • Write registration string like (trunk#: password@gw1.sip.us)
  • Click on the duplicate trunk to create the new gateway replace 1 with 2 in all settings of trunk/gateway and submit changes
  • Now go to connectivity and click on outbound routes
  • Click on add Route write the Route name like (SIPUS_5262439924)
  • Set call recording to YES
  • Set the dial pattern
  • Select trunk sequence for matched Route and click on submit changes

That’s it. Now test with your extension.
